What's the difference?
« on: 23 August 2013, 09:49 »
Hey all, trying to work out some things ahead of a project...

I've been researching the differences between the standard Mk5 Golf GTI and the Edition 30, and apart from the engine having the K04 Turbo, the exterior parts (front splitter, side skirts and rear bumper) appear to be just colour coded standard part? Or are they slightly different in shape?

Haven't been able to get up close and personal with an Edition 30, hence the novice question.

Front splitter and rear valance are a different shape/design.

Ah, OK, thanks for that. Are the side skirts just colour coded normal GTI side skirts?

Sorry I'm not sure. I'd make an educated guess that they're the same as the R32 skirts which are smooth and primed for painting. They're expensive.

Rear Lights
Front Valance
Rear Valance
Colour coded side skirts

The valances are a different shape and have different contours.
The side skirts are smooth.
Rear lights are the same for the R32 and Ed30.

That said, if you paint the front lower valance and rear lower and paint the insert black it can look similar and also ala Audi. Can work well...this may give you an idea

I'm mainly after the visual/bodywork differences as I wanted to replace my standard GTI front splitter with an Ed30 version. The rear is going for a full fat R32 rear, and I think I may get my side skirts replaced at a later stage. I do like the ones on the picture provided above, the whole car has a nice stance.
