what brake discs to buy and where from??
« on: 21 August 2013, 21:00 »
Hi everyone,

The time has come to change my brake discs for more uprated ones, ive been looking at mintex front drilled and grooved  discs with mintex pads also standard solid discs and mintex pads on the rear, i would rather keep the brakes at standard size and not go any bigger. Ive used mintex brakes on previous cars and ive never had any problems but iam open to ideas ;) Iam just not sure of where the best place is to buy these from, ive seen some on ebay full mintex sets front and rear as above for £150ish, this seems a bit cheap so not sure on whether these are genuine mintex ones or not! Can anybody recommend an ideal brake setup for me or maybe the best place to buy these from???

help and suggestions are very much appriciated!

Thanks Davros

If you're not using the car for track days etc. I'd go for the Mintex ones. I've nearly always had Mintex as well and they've always been fine for me. I'd stay away from drilled and grooved and go for solid, I've heard the drilled/grooved ones warp more easily.

A few people on here got stung with Mintex discs on ebay a few years ago, they were very poor quality so we concluded they were fakes. Best off buying them from a reputable dealer

Discs are drilled to save weight which is not needed on a mk4 and the grooves will just wear your pads faster.

I replaced mine with Apec discs and pads all round last time I did them.
