Car tracker-Advice please
« on: 20 August 2013, 19:32 »
Re my last post and my insurance problems, I find I have little choice but to stay with the insurance company which will offer up to 6 MONTHS overseas cover, so I am now faced with the problem of finding a suitable and economical tracker. My investigation of what is available has simply served to confuse me as, in particular, I have no desire to be committed to a commercial monitoring system because of cost. What I am seeking is a tracking system which I can monitor myself and which will satisfy the insurers. They have not stipulated any particular system or manufacturer and have simply said that they will be happy with any tracker which can locate the car in the event of theft. Anybody out there with experience in this area please?

Thanks for link CraigW, however I've already checked them out and apart from initial cost they require an additional annual subscription fee of £149

There must be something simple that can be placed in the car that can be tracked.
Worst case scenario is you could wire up a hidden phone as phones can be tracked nowadays.

What about this kind of thing for £36

Or look for person / dog GPS tracking.

As it's at the request of the insurance company I assume they will have  list of approved/accepted equipment.
Cancelled GTI, M135i beast mode.

Thanks Jimble. I shall send details to the insurers and see what they have to say

As mentioned in my previous post I contacted my insurers and this is the reply I received.

Thank you for your email concerning a tracker.

If a tracker is needed for your vehicle, we do not recommend any specific one, only that one is required to cover you for theft or attempted theft.

I hope that this clarifies your query.

Kind regards
