Discount on demonstrator
« on: 19 August 2013, 22:33 »
Hi all
I have been getting quotes on a couple of mk7s over last couple of days.  They are coming in around £360 pm on a 4 year pcp with my deposit and part ex (considering changing to 3 years actually).  Both cars have winter pack, and nav.

Both dealers have asked what it would take to get me to buy their car and are aware I am speaking to the other.  Problem is I have no idea what to ask for in terms of discount/sweeteners.  Can anyone give me some tips?

Thanks in advance
Ff

Well on a factory order it's between 5%-12.5% pretty much. So I would be wanting at least the upper end of that for a pre-reg showroom model. If it's a demo with mileage then more obviously. Make sure the car is full UK spec with the adaptive cruise control and not one of the early demos that aren't full UK spec.

Cancelled GTI, M135i beast mode.

Like with anything in life, if you don't ask you don't get, and when you haggle, don't be afraid to be cheeky and ask for way more than you expect.  Worst that can happen is they say no, or more likely just offer less of a discount than what you originally asked for.  Aside from asking for, say, 10% discount, ask about things like servicing etc.

It's a demo with miles on (can't remember how many).  Off the top of my head it has the standard uk spec with cruise, dab, etc plus professional nav, winter pack and the adaptive suspension thingy.  To be honest I'm absolutely baffled by all the options available so not 100% sure.  The screen price is £27900

I take it its not unreasonable to request a 10% discount then?  I'm really not the kind of person who is particularly comfortable with haggling although I realise you have to ask to get anywhere.  The car comes with 2 years free servicing.

If it was me, I wouldn't touch a demo with a barge pole. It's been ragged within an inch of its life, or at least that's how I drove the demo I took out.

To be fair, out of the two cars, one looked like it had hardly been sat in full stop, it was ridiculously immaculate

Benfield Scotswood Road? They had 2 white GTIs in - one a first wave demo without ADC sensor, and another white one with Santiagos which was purely a retail sale car, never left the showroom.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

To be fair, if it has got pro nav, ACC and winter pack, that's almost £3k of options, so the price isn't that bad as a starting point.  But, no, of course it's not unreasonable to ask for 10% discount - it's a used car after all.  Personally I'd go on at 12.5% discount and see where they go from there. Thing is though, my brand new car with ACC, camera, keyless, winter pack, basic nav, telephone prep and heated screen didn't come to much more than that asking price anyway after my discount...food for thought maybe?  All depends if you can stomach the wait.
