Possible newbie with a few Qs
« on: 19 August 2013, 20:28 »
Looking at the possibility of a GTD as a replacement for my current leggy a4 tdi commuter, drove the 140ps cr Gt and wasn't impressed at all with the gutless motor,170 GTD is much more usefull and lovely cabin with FBSW similar to my RS4 and nice seats,im beginning to discount a DSG model after a few chats with people in the know, given im probably going to buy an ex fleet example and may map it.They seem to asking crazy money and selling activity doesn't seem to be very high after many ads re listed.Any sold or traded recently offer an inside opinion? Anyone looking to sell in the near future?

Few Qs

Is the white on GTDs different to standard cars? Candy white I believe?

Are 16" winter tyres ok ie wheels clear the brakes?

Real world mpg?

Nav worthwhile or pants like in my RS4?

Much trouble to do twin outlet exhaust conv like R model or GTI ?

How rare are zenons? Are stock ok?

They have Bluetooth as standard?

Any one mapped one?

Thanks in advance guys

1. No. Candy white is a stock colour.
2. GTDs have the same brakes as lesser models so 15's will fit.
3. 50mpg is a realistic average. It' s possible to get 70, but you'd get a bluemotion if you wanted that.
4. Depends whether you know the way or not.
5. The twin exhaust will fit. You'll need the diffuser insert for the bumper.
6. Xenons are like hens teeth.
7. Bluetooth is standard on 2011 models. It' s easy to retro fit tho'.
8. Quite a few people on here. 190-200bhp are realistic figures.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Thankyou

Nav pretty pants then?

Surprised at brakes being same as lesser powered models but cheap I guess.

Bluetooth retro as in the small dash mounted screen jobbie?

If a 2010 car had nav would that also have Bluetooth or...?

No point paying for 170ps and drive it like a tart dribbling around glued the DIS,decent on a run and umph when needed wil do me just fine.

tank seems smaller than an a4? I could get 600 out of my b7 tdi 50/50 motorway/a road driving?

I have a GTD DSG and love it!

Mine has:

Nav - just updated with latest maps and works perfectly, displays in the dash cluster which is cool.

Dynaudio - sounds great, no complaints.

ACC - only makes subtle changes to the ride but nice to have it I suppose!

DSG - suits the engine perfectly IMO, launch control is fun.

Mine is running a stage 2 remap with DPF delete and goes very well. Not had it long enough to say what it beats in the real world but I'm happy with it coming from petrol hot hatches.

Eh?
You sure?...or was the "15's" a typo?
I thought GTDs have 312mm brakes same as a GTI, so you need 16" wheels to clear?

My mate has a 2012 GTD and that has the same brakes as my GT. They are certainly smaller than the GTIs 312's.

As for bluetooth, you can retro fit the factory integrated kit using as aftermarket wiring harness even tho' the dealers will tell you it can't be done. Search ebay for VW Bluetooth Kit.

There is a very good How To on this forum.

The Nav in my 2011 Passat is excellent, so I would expect the RNS510 in the Golf to be just as good as long as it has been updated. Bluetooth is separate to the radio, so a car with nav won't necessararly have bluetooth.

If that's the case, I'm amazed.

My Mk5 GT170 has GTI brakes...so find it odd if VW dropped the brake size on the powerful diesel in the Mk6 range.

I stand corrected then. I was sure they were smaller.
