throttle switch
« on: 16 August 2005, 11:41 »
How do i diagnose if my throttle switch is working correctly?  What symptoms would i get if it wasn't and how would i test it.  Just that I seem to be getting like a slipping clutch effect but only when im absolutely gunning it

is it the full throttle switch on a digifant, the easiest way to check it to have the engine running open the throttle manually to about 2000rpm then press in the switch if the revs change, i think the revs should drop, it works

naaah its on the early k jet 16v, when the throttle closes there is like a little red button that it knocks against.  I'm presuming this is the throttle switch? :undecided:

im guessing thats the idle switch if i clicks when the throttle is closed, id say the easiest way to test without proper tools is to dissconect it when the engines running, i would have thought thered be a connector plug near the switch, not too sure on the 16vs tbh

Just dis-connect it and see :) it does not make much difference on mine?

There is a test in the haynes for this! It is real awakward to do if you dont take the switch out with the bracket! and get a mate to hold the multimete pins in for you, so much easier ;)

Also you might want to spary some wd 40 down the accelerator cable just to lube it up!

If you wanna test the red button you can see then start the engine and hold the throttle open a little by hand. Then press the button in, if the revs drop then its working ok.
