Company car rules no 3 doors or convertibles .....Would have probably gone for the 3dr. My mother has a mk5 GT 3rd and finds the doors really heavy and big when parking in a tight space, and the seat belt difficult to grab (but then her drivers seat is pretty much fully forward!)

There's no doubting the 3rd looks better, but some (blind) peeps might disagree

3dr for me because in my opinion it looks more sporty and being as its a second car I don't need to worry about fitting the kids in.
Golfgti build quality is average at best.

3 door cos it looks way better, echo the mk1 window line. Love it

Got 2 young kids and actually found 3 doors have their advantages.
When it's raining, you can climb in with them and sit on the back of the folder forward front seat.
Saves you getting a wet back getting them in car seats!

When older, they will have to climb in. Part of the adventure!

My only concerns are heavier longer doors and kids visibility.
Like others though, I was about to buy a GT86/scirocco/similar. So 3 dr made perfect sense!

No kids, can count the times I've had people in the back on 1 hand, but 5 doors for me. Love being able to sling stuff on the back seats and makes getting big stuff in the back with the seats folded easier - which i do a lot with push bikes.

Going against the flow I think the 5 door looks better.... The doors on the 3 door look too big.

I much prefer the 5 door. It's supposed to be a practical, good at everything sort of car and 5 doors gives it that edge over the 3 door. As cars are getting bigger, I think cars like the Golf can carry 5 doors off better than say the Mk2 ever could.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Can't see a huge aesthetic penalty for 5 door on the Golf - some cars look far better in 3 doors, but not the Golf (the 3 door looks a tiny bit better).

With cars getting wider and spaces getting smaller, big 3 door cars are a PITA, and my Aunty Joan nearly broke her hip getting out of the Scirocco around Feb time. With a 5 door costing more, but retaining more value, in a 3 year period it costs you no more to own the 5 door.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

If I was ordering a mk7 GTI / GTD, it would be the 5 door. My mk6 is a 5 door; easier to get in and out if you're parked in a tight spot (like my garage!), or in the less than generous spaces in my works car park, as the doors are shorter.

I've also got elderly family members, and 5 doors make it easier for them to get in and out if they need me to take them places.

It's simple. If your an old git you'll order a 5 door. If your a cool, young, particularly good looking guy then it has to be 3 door
