Rough Idle.
« on: 13 August 2013, 10:17 »
Hi, My 2.0L 2E/AGG has startet to act up on idle. the problem is not consistant but kinda annoying.

when it's idling she sound like she's gonna stall and the rmp starts to wander from 720-800ish.

i plugged up my vagcom and ran a diagnostic and there where Three fault codes

00537
00537
00525

yes the 00537 came up twice.

looked up the codes via ros Tech, and the two first ones are

Lambda regulation: Lower limit

and the 00525 are also for the lambda sensor but for implausible signal.

ross-Tech says:

check the lambda sensor for 00525

and for the 00537

-activeated charcoal filter solenoid valve 1 (N80)  leaking/sticking
-faulty injector
-fuel pressure regulator.

I again hooked up the vagcom and did a measureing Block while driving.

the voltage at the lambda was at startup 1.33V and whilst driving it dropped to min 0.16V
the charcoal valve ranged from 0% to 8.2%
the mulitplier for the lambda cas at 1.01/1.02

does anybody know what thoose Readings mean?

best regards Olav Daniel Brevik

Lol i was in Oslo the other week I could have had a look for you

Check lambda sensor wiring it can go a bit crispy and short out giving you an intermittant fault.
To be safe I would fit a new sensor, but I dare say these are expensive in Norway......
I have several known working spares on the shelf just so I can test.

Canister valve can be checked and by passed if faulty.
Injectors can be checked by pulling them out and looking at the spray patern/if its spraying at all.
Worth checking the connectors as they too can get crispy and fall apart.
Pressure regulator can be removed and cleaned or swapped over very easily, often the fault is the vac pipe that operates it is rotten or missing...

Oslo is around 100 miles from where i live

think ill try to check the wirings tomorrow :)

im guessing that i wouldnt get any Readings from the 02 sensor if it was dead. but vagcom gave me a Reading from 0.16V up to 1.33 (kinda high voltage right?)

a New OEM sensor cost's 2500NOK almost 360 dollars

however i did find a universal Bosch sensor for around 100 dollars but not sure how long its gona last.

what does the canister valve do since its just to bypass it? :P

Edit: whilst waiting for the boat im working in to arrive i poped the Hood and just peeked around. whilst my head was over the cylinder cover i could hear a hissing sound, kinda high pitched. is there any vaccum lines going near the torpedo wall?

I guess you haven't removed a injector on a agg it's not that simple I had to take the throttle body off to get to one of the bolts that holds the injector rail in place as well as the valve cover for easy access.

while im getting good response.

the car i a 2 door hatchback, at around 40-45 theres extensive Wind noise from the drivers door, all the way at the back. if I push a little on the door it gets much worse. can it be the hinges? theres no play in them but that noise is LOUD!

any ideas? :)

Throttle body comes off easy, granted the buggers can be tough to pull out.....I have a tool to make this easyxD

Door rubbers. I had this and a new length of door rubber sorted it!
It comes in a single length to fit the door and you have to cut one end to fit it, its got a metal inner so you need a small hacksaw

This hissing sound would most likely be the black pipe that comes from the throttle body and into the brake servo, it's their to assist the braking. Common to break /split at the bend.

i have checked for vaccum leaks, none found.
checked the maf sensor and the car stalled when i used compressed air (not mutch just a little squeeze)

also tried to clean the throttle body which was completly black inside. cleaned the Outer part and the valve but behind the valve was impossible to Reach.

the wiring to the O2 sensor has been sliced before and i think that there may bad work done there as they have used tape to do this, think ill try to redo it the correct way and see if it gets better as the fault code say its an implausible signal.

the door got way better when I tightened up the 8mm nuts no the doors. but theres still Wind noise from the drivers door. as mentioned its probably the door seal.

any ideas for a quick fix for now? im going on a long trip on sunday but the noise is surely to make me insane.
