You don't need to register a car on the same day. It can and most of the time is done in advance.

Ask your dealer for confirmation if you are unsure.

Good to know. The only think to cock-up Sept 1st delivery is VW holding my car up at dockside.  :angry:

Once the car is in the UK they can start the registering.
Not sure where the road tax comes into play though, although others have mentioned it can be driven off the forecourt without tax and you receive the tax later so there shouldn't be a problem.
