LCR brakes on Mk2?
« on: 03 August 2013, 23:36 »
Im looking to upgrade the tired standard brake setup to the Cupra R fronts and rears. Apart from the carriers, is there anything else I will need to change/do to accommodate the the new stoppers?

The Leon brakes will only fit if you've currently got 5x100 hubs.

Do you mean Ibiza Cupra R's, 305mm Brembo's?

Ah makes sense. Would the Ibiza brembo's be easier then? I only have the stock hubs on the car at the minute, car is a 90H 8v im not sure about sizes and technicalities.

If you only have standard hubs nothing else will fit because the 8v carrier is built on to the hub, you need 16v hubs to put bigger brakes on and the 16v brakes themselves are decent

Cheers for the advice all.
One more question, do the 16v brakes suffer from sticking rear calipers like the 8v seems to be plagued with? Are mk4's also worth a shout as ive heard these are relatively easy to install?

The mk2 rear callipers have external springs and tend to stick where as the mk4 callipers have internal springs and are much better as the springs don't get corroded, mk4 callipers also use the same pad carrier and handbrake cable as the mk2 so are so east to fit, literally 1 bolts and a brake pipe, however they have a banjo fitting on the brake pipe so you need different hoses. Also mk3 and mk4 rear callipers are the same exept mk4 ones are aluminium rather than steel.
