Right what am I doing wrong. ..? My GTD no matter how fast or slow I drive uses loads of fuel....when I was in southern ireland thr GTD loved it I loved the country roads and to be honest the speeds I was at it didn't use that much fuel and return to uk and different story?! Put 1/2 tank in...do 62.0 miles and used 2 needles (to the next bold line). Do I need to keep ensurinf it is filled to max in order for it to be econmical or change and get a GTI? Not doing that much motorway anymore....just seems it loves to drink and comparing to my 1.9 gt tdi mk4 despite it was a 130 remapped even that didnt drink as much even when I rapped it....Help. ..no faults have been found? Or is it just me and need to put in more fuel each time as its a bigish engine?

My ed 35 prob does about 24-30 mpg on average, but we don't go to far but plenty of smiles per gallon (pardon an old cliche)

Our Stage 2 car easily achieves an average of 32mpg with it only doing a 10 mile round trip each day

Sounds like you are guestimating the fuel you are using by looking just at the fuel guage?

Best thing to do is fill the car up, do a weeks driving (or however long) and then refill it.  Look at how many miles you've covered and how many gallons you've just put in and that'll tell you the real world fuel economy.

As an average you shoudl get 45mpg with mixed town driving - if on a good run i'll get 55-60mpg but spirited driving can take it to 40 (and less )

When mine was doing some really poor economy it was all linked to an interim fault I was having which turned out to be the pressure switch causing the car to run rich and drink fuel!

where are you buying your diesel from? if you are getting it from the supermarket that could be the problem.

Get your diesel from Shell or a main company, what a difference it makes in petrol cars - Shell Only for me and V_power 85% of the time
