Timing won't set

Okay I've replaced my rotor arm and dizzy cap after the rotor arm snapped and now the engine won't run it idles smoothly if the timings about 30degrees advanced but when I rev it it misfires and back fires and jumps about, but when I put the light on it and try and set the timing properly it cuts out before I can get to the crankshaft mark

Is this an 8v or 16v. On the 8v digi you need to unplug the blue temp sender and have the engine revved between 2-2.5k rpm. This is when you set it to 6 degrees advance. When you plug the sender back in check that it is advancing the timing by about 30 degrees.

It's an 8 valve and I've done all the correct procedure, it's actually a running problem I've found

is the mark on flywheel in the right place? could your cambelt have slipped a tooth? I would check that first then check coil connections for corrosion or frayed wires. also the ignition switches can fail on these causing rough running now and again.

Right I've went over everything a million times including bypassing the ignition switch and the static timing is perfect, it's all starter since I replaced the broken rotor and cap

Have you tried the ignition  amp on ecu? Mine was weird and ran ok if I unscrewed it and didn't let it touch ecu. The sparks around ecu cradle gave it away
