Help with price as selling Mk2 GTI 16v
« on: 29 July 2013, 10:17 »
I have a black Golf mk2 16v GTI - J reg.

I have had it for ten years and its been and continues to be a great reliable car.

I'm am the third owner, its in fantastic condition, and currently its done 95000 miles. it has six months tax, the MOT is due in December, not once in the time I have had it has there ever been a problem at MOT time.

It's been serviced once a year every year. Everything that would normally go wrong has pretty much all been replaced. Everything has been kept standard in terms of body work, alloys etc. I have a box of receipts, service history etc also.

It has a couple of small problems, 1, the sunroof needs sorting - it does open and close however it has dropped therefore I have packers inside keeping it up.

2, There is slight wear and tear in the drivers seat (from getting in and out), the other chairs are in perfect condition, the rears don't even look like they have been sat it!

3, there is some very slight rust in two places but nothing at all serious.

I'm going to sell it because I have a kid now which ins't easy! also I have been driving a Audi A5 for the last month and have got the feel and want for a newer car.

I have been looking around to compare and see what I should try and get for it, it would appear that anywhere form £3800 to £4500 seems realistic.

Can anybody help and confirm a price, this would be a great help. Alternatively please feel to email any questions should you be interested in purchasing.

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like you have already done the research. Might be worth sorting out those issues to achieve the highest price possible.

If it really is a good example and you want a managed sale, www.4starclassics.com aren't too far away.

3800-4500 will be rust free

without seeing yours but the fact you mention there is bits of rust you are down round the 2-2.5k mark

The rust is minimal.....

It always is until you get the tappy hammer out.

4starclassics. Have to laugh at the overly marked up prices.

For that sort of money the entire car needs to be almost concours
The great leveler for any decent Mk2 is the condition of the shell, rust free inner arches going up to the rear shocker mounts. Condition of inner and outer metalwork around the fuel filler neck. Originality of the sills, and the condition of the "A" post where the bonnet hinge bolts on, an area that would need a camera up there or the wings removed to inspect... Very few cars now fall into this "Rust free" condition

A great selling point for better cars, is a list of nothing to do!! get the small nigly bits sorted, and you stand a better chance of it finding a good home

I'm also intrigued as to how this car looks! get some pics up, warts and all!
