brake fluid and brake pads
« on: 26 July 2013, 15:36 »
Hi folks,

My mk6 GTI is due for a brake fluid service and new pads. I would say the car is used to fast road driving and maybe only one track day a year.

What brake fluid is recommended? I've read about Ate Super Blue Racing and Motul Street 5.1. Do we know what VW main dealer use?

And also what are my pad upgrade options please?

I have motul RBF300 on my clio 200 with DS2500 pads.

Heard some reports of ATE blue causing hydraulic clutches to squeak so didn't bother with it.

Opie have 20% off at the moment.

After trying different fluids in mine, I have related back to OEM fluid without any issues at all and a lot better pedal feel, if its good enough for the Veyron it's good enough for me

Oem fluid for the humble gti is the same as which goes into the ceramic equipped R8 V10, never had any issues stopping my ikkle 2.0 hatchback with the stuff

Nice one thanks. Do the R8 and Veryon really use the same stuff?

What about brakes? I looked at DS2500's because I had them in my old 350Z but I can't seem to find a size that fits the Golf. Any other recommendations?

I'm sure plenty have mate, but for a wider response on something like brake pad choice and reviews you'll be better off hitting a mk5 forum tbh...
Brakes are the same with the exception of a change to a smaller rear disc and Bosch calipers on the mk6, all pad fitments are the same

Seems people havent got round to modding the mk6 to quite the same extent as the mk5 yet, but I've had In no particular order:

Ferodo DS performance: great upgrade from stock and retain Reg90 approval and therefore road legal, around £110ish
Ferodo DS2500: a step up from DS perf and capable of light track work, a little noisy at times and give off quite a bit of dust, technically not road legal as lacking reg90 approval but a great all rounder, £150ish
Mintex M1144: same compound performance level as DS2500 but without the judder you can get due to pad transfer with the 2500s on track, great for fast road and light track work, again technically not road legal, around £100

HTH

I pondered for a long time on discs and pads.

Eventually i went for Pagid Discs from Euro Car Parts and bought some Tarox pads from Revolution.

They are absolutely great and would recommend to anyone.

As for brake fluid, again I just used OEM
