quite a bit actually. you would need to fit the gti fuel tank and lines. the 1.3 exhaust would not be big enough so that would need changed for a mk2 gti 8 or 16valve exhaust. radiator would need upgraded. the engine wiring loom will not plug in to fuse box as it is earlier type but could be spliced in. also would recommend at least mk2 8valve front brakes/struts and anti roll bar as the 2 litre is a fair bit heavier than the 1.3 and you will get a lot off roll in the corners if you leave it standard. I think a decent set up to go with the 2litre engine in the mk2 is the mk2 16valve complete suspension and brakes. there could be other small things to that I cant remember.

Search 2.0 bottom end conversion, its fairly simple to do.
ABF is a far better choice all round has 8 more valves and ompf.
You will need all the bits to make your car a GTI first and then the looms etc.
Would be easier to buy a mk3 16v and lift all the running gear as your starting from pv spec golf.
500 will buy you a good donor car to rip apart, although some g2 parts will be needed.
Search is your friend as this has been done a lot, also go on club gti as there are some handy folk there who have done this to death.

None of the work is hard, just need a lot of parts, room, and elbow grease.
How good is your shell?

but he said he "wanted to fit an 8 valve". believe it or not some people are happy enough with the 8 valve power. I had 1 in my last mk2 and for day to day running it was spot on. not a massive revver but plenty low down grunt.

Same amount of work. Might aswell abf it cos 2.0 ltr 8v novelty is going to wear off pretty quick.
Seen it happen. "Oh well now I've got a bigger bottom end ill get a cam, and exhaust and head work and lightened flywheel"
Might aswell abf it for more power, less money

Hairy muff. Might aswell put scrap to use lol.
You ve got everything you need so might aswell do it but if it was a case of sourcing parts then the abf would of been more sense
