Hey up guys,

Im spending too many hours of my life reading through forums changing my mind every 20 minutes. The GTI is my daily driver - Some city miles, some open roads. May do the odd track day ( 1 or 2 a year)

Im currently running Stage 1 Bluefin - and hopefully getting the Carbonio Intake stage 1 off Phil in two weeks.

In all honesty, should i make the jump to Stage 2?.....as im gonna have to buy TBE (£500 - £800) and £50 for Stage 2 map.

Would all that money be better spent on handling mods like springs and Anti Roll bars, rather than increasing power - How much power increase and mainly excitement will stage 2 really bring?

Honest answer welcome.....

  • She's gone but never forgotten
I would go handling and braking as the next step, that way you can make a lot more use of the stage 1
Stage 1 to 2 is not a massive gain but you will knocking on the door of 300bhp
And on standard sh!tty brakes that's not a good place to be

I take your advise seriously as ive seen your build thread. Thought it would be more like 250-270bhp on stage 2?

So you think stage 1 with carbonio would be ok for now. Would you say brakes or ARB next (bearing in mind brakes cost quite a bit to upgrade)

dam man....wish i just had a quick £1500 lying around so i could bring the car up to the mid range spec i want...life sucks

Handling mods and stage 1, I personally don't think it's worth investing all that cash when you are running a tuna map

Just do your own thing as may not suit your needs, my rocco did 20k a year in stage 2 and was a bit full on, my GTI does about 10k a year and I use the Polo or wife's Pirelli for hum drum stuff

Stage 1 is a great place to be and does not attract too much attention

When you go from Stage 1 to 2 the car no longer feels like a stock car with a bit more oomph, rocco had all chasis stuff done as well, power delivery was smoother on stage 2 so was stronger but more usable

Bluefin is affectionalty known as a tuna on forums

I've never seen the point on tuna stage 2 from rocco days APR and Revo stage 1 out performed tuna 2 so I would have shelled out more for the map rather than 1,500 notes on tbe and intake with less oomph

Funny you should say that, my MK6 always pips my mates Revo MK6, even when i have drove it, its too aggressive off the line often causing spin.

Plus there is no real tuner within 2 hours of me who wants to do MK6 - R-tech even said no thanks....so options are limited

I think the guys at Superchips have done a superb job of stage 1 map. Plus i can always reload if i need battery out.

I wouldn't go stage 2 without upgrading the brakes and clutch first.

No way are the brakes adequate for 270 bhp
