BIG brakes

Been reading a few different ways to up grade the brakes on my 8v gti but not sure what it is I exactly need? Seems to be a few mk3 vr6s for braking on eBay so would that be the best way to go? Any help would be great.

there is lots of ways to upgrade. but you have to decide how far you want to go. like whats the car going to be used for most and are you changing to heavier more powerful engine?

Regardless of power, if your going to change your brakes anyway; surely bigger is always better no? You can never have too much stopping power.

Actually no.  Go too big and they won't get hot enough in action.

280mm brakes will be fine - find them on the usual vehicles these threads talk about, which DON'T include the 5-stud Golf3s.  Try a search.

Only looking at going to 160bhp so don't need out to crazy
So would I need front and rears or just fronts? Also could I just get away with upgrading the discs and pads that are already on for some performance ones? Sorry for all the questions new to the dub world.

you would probably be fine with mk2 16v discs and fast road pads or mk3 8 valve discs and fast road pads. its all down to your driving style really. are you going to be racing the car?

No it's just my work car so its not going to have to much hard braking.

Just upgrade the fronts to 280mm and the master cylinder.  Search on here - covered loads of times.

Can't 'upgrade' the 239mm set up because it's sh*t.
