Central locking button
« on: 20 July 2013, 22:45 »
I've just been speaking with my mate who has a MK5 R32 - 5 door.
He has the car set to lock when driving. When he stops to pick up his wife, he can't unlock the doors as the button no longer works. It seems to still lock - just won't unlock.
Sounds to me like a faulty switch?

Any ideas - and if it is just the switch... how do we go about replacing it. VW will likely charge £80 for an hours labour to do it. I imagine we can get a switch from a scrappy, and fit it in 10mins?

Look up door card removal on mk5 golf on this forum and check the vids on YouTube. The whole door card needs to be removed including the handle and window mirror adjuster. Only tricky bit is getting the clips to not snap. A little brute force is applied in the right spot as most vids and walkthroughs will show you.
