What's the damage.... Tensioner snapped off :(
« on: 13 July 2013, 23:48 »
Ok lads was on the way home on Thursday and couldn't bare to look at it till today, on looking at what went wrong I pulled the tentioner out the engine with ease as the bolt securing it in place snapped.

So how bad to you reckon the damage is going to be??

New valves, head skimmed and all that good stuff?

Some one said to me that on some engines they are classed as 'clear'- the space between the piston and the valves (so if the cambelt does go then the pistons don't hit the valves and all that good stuff)...... Is this engine one of those engines?

It's a gt tdi 150 arl

Thanks in advance fellas

The only thing you can do to be sure is to take the head off and inspect the valves.
I would have thought its only a couple of valves that will need replacing. If you car hasn't had the camshaft changed might be worth doing that while the Belt is off

Have a look in my thread under this one. Scarr posted a link but I got parts from my parts supplier for cheaper but will probably cost the same once posted.

Some engines are interference fit, other not. I am sure if this engine is, you'd have to have a google. If it isn't then it should be ok. Will just need to replace it all and get it timed again.

That is a good deal...
