1.6 carb auto to ahu 1.9tdi

Right then fuel sender can i just use the original 1.6 carb one as obviously there isnt any pump in the tank just as long as i can clean out the tank properly it should be fine ?

Fuel sender - you're fine with the original.

I would check on the original AHU install to see if there is a lift pump in the tank - you *might* need one.  In which case you need a lift pump from a GTI.

Might not need one, but worth checking to make sure you don't have fueling problems to chase when it's just because the car's struggling to suck the fuel out of the tank.

Cheers for that mr hell i did take the sender out the mk3 and there was no pump inside and just a twin pin plug on top so im guessing im all good to go

When cleaning the tank make sure to open every window/door as it will make the car stink aswell as filling it with toxic and explosive fumes. If you didn't want to take it off the car could you clean it from the boot?

If I was doing a fuel swap I would have the tank out of the car and get as much petrol out as possible, then dump 10-20 litres of diesel into it.  As it's not a super-advanced TDI it'll tolerate a *little* bit of petrol, but really removing the tank and dumping the fuel out the filler is your best option to clean things through.

Make sure you're running the correct diameter pipes to and from the tank, too - IIRC carb G2s have smaller diameter return lines - what size were the G3 lines? Equal?

Ive litrally just taken the fuel lines off the mk3 so ill use thos ejust to be safe andill remove the tank aswell if the bolts on the straps arnt too rusty
