Which disk brakes should I buy?
« on: 11 July 2013, 21:56 »
I need some new disks as mine are pretty corroded and are not making a good noise!
A mechanic has recommended TRW disks but I can't find them anywhere?
He has said they're about £20 per disk so £80 all in have you got any advice on what I can/should buy or where I can find the TRW ones?
I have a 2001 2.0 GTI

Thanks,

Jack.

Depends if its for front or back.

Contrary to what I normally do I replaced the rear discs and pads on my mk4 for £25 off an eBay seller... Spot on for the rears.

Glad I only spent £25 now as the cars for sale/ being stripped for parts.

I'm replacing both front and back,

Disks, and possibly pads as well and I'd like to do calipers depending on price?

what condition are yours in/would you be willing to sell them on (if they'll fit my standard 2.0?)
I also need the switch for the mirrors so if you have that as well i'm looking to get that sorted?

Thanks,

Jack.

The disc brakes you should look for are Mintex. Wouldn't use anything else.

Nothing wrong with Pagid Disks from euro car parts I used a set of Mintex which I will say are good but the pagids have lasted longer and after all this time still look better

Pagid are hit and miss, from my experience they warp pretty quick

I've recently changed front and rear discs on my mk4 Golf GTi.
Went for cheap ones for the rear from ECP, and for the front opted for Brembo HC discs and Mintex 1144 pads.
