power steering pump

hi i have just brought a 91 8v gti there is a leak on the pump,there is a hole on the front as you look at it,with a ball bearing in it.been told it maybe a pressure relief valve?any help plz

Can you get pictures up of what you mean. The power steering pump only has two hoses. The low pressure return hose which is mounted more at the top , then the high pressure pipe which has a 90 degree elbow straight away and comes out the front. The LP hose will let air int the system and make a whining noise from the pump, you get a leak on the HP though and you will know about it as it will piss out fluid fast.
