what would you do...
« on: 09 July 2013, 19:14 »
ok so the other day I started getting a bit of a boost leak. think iv sorted that, but today driving home it kept rev bouncing when I came out of gear and it stalled twice when I put it in neutral.

now I thought it was just that I haddent fixed the boost leak.

but just checked oil then and it was a little low... just less than 1mm lower than the bottom bend on the dip stick.

topped it up with 5w30 fully synth. and drove home from the shop then, seemed to be completely fine so I think the rev bouncing etc might have been from the low oil or from a combination of boost leak and low oil (proberbly the latter cause I know one of my boost pipes is held on by a broken clip atm...)

I go on holiday on sunday so was thinking of just droping the car around my cousins garage on sunday and saying to him, you have two weeks service it and replace oil pick up pipe. and search for a boost leak if he has time.

its round 1.5k off a service anyway which when your doing 50 odd+ miles a day (just too and from work) isn't very long.

sound like a good idea... anything else youd do?

That much oil loss won't make any difference. What engine code have you got? Doesn't sound like a boost leak. You will feel and hear the difference if it was.

could feel the difference before and after id tightened the broken clip a little more (as best I could).

code is arz.

and yeah didn't think that little oil loss would make much of a difference and its not asif ive been driving around like that for ages (I hope not)but wasn't sure.

like I said its due a service relatively soon, so was thinking while im on holiday just get it done and get pick up pipe done for peace of mind.

I would say you have a split hose some where. Have a look under the inlet manifold you might have to feel the pipe but those are common to split on the ARZ and if it is leaking you can sometimes hear them sucking air in

My car did do this when i put a cheap DV valve on, even cut out on a round about twice, put a better DV on, problem solved it might be your dv needs a service if u have a forge one :)

Mine was bouncing on the revs for a while dropping as if it was about to stall I had to give it a little rev to keep it ticking over.
I cleaned out the throttle body and this sorted it right out now runs sweet as

Could be worth cleaning it?

No much help if it is a boost leak though  :undecided:
