Air Con
« on: 08 July 2013, 11:50 »
Ok guys had my 2009 Mk6 GT TDI for about 8 months now and never really tried to use the Air-Con until this weekend.  Sods law it not blowing out cold air and really feels no different to just having the blowers on normally.  Thought it may need a re-gas but before I take it in is there any common faults i check for?

Thanks

I don't know what to check for, but not using it at for 8 months won't have done it much good. Mine is on all the time, all year round.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Check the compressor pump. The bolt in the centre should be turning with the aircon on. If not the compressor is faulty and will need replacing. Not cheap
Mk6 GTI Carbon Grey, 2010 Bluetooth and voice fitted, a few VCDS mods still a comfortable family car. Red Scirocco 2011 twin charger stage 1 - enjoyable drive now gone.  White 2016 Polo GTI (roller skate on steroids) replaced with an Indium Grey 2019 7.5 GTI PP.

Do you know where abouts in the engine bay the air con pump is located?

+1 for leaving on 24 / 7. Have done this in all cars I've owned with A/C or climate control and have never had any issues.

Ok I visited ATS the other day as they were doing a free Air Con Check.  They spent a good 90 mins on it and confirmed there were no leaks in the system and even re-gassed the system to see if they could get it to work but with success.  The tech there said he was 99% sure it was the air com pump sensor which is located near the radiator.  Apparently he tells me this is a 'common fault' on VW's and they have done a few of them.  They have even invested in a specific tool for the job as the sensor is awkward to access.  I asked him if this would through up any fault codes to which he said no.  Does this sound plausable? Ayone else heard anything similar?

The would leak gas so if that's ok it's probably air co compressor, have a look down side of engine near belts to see if bolt is loose and not spinning with pulley
