New GTI Owner - Where to start with maintenance
« on: 05 July 2013, 11:10 »
So i finally made it in life & yesterday picked up my 1990 GTI Cabrio (Black)

I'm no mechanic by any stretch, but i'm pretty handy under the bonnet. Where do you think i should start with servicing. With other cars in the past, usually injector cleaner, plugs, leads, oil & filters.

Any other suggestions?

the older golfs are pretty straight forward to look after. as you said above. would change fuel filter to and cambelt if unsure when it was last done. check exhaust rubber hangers as they tend to rip at times. basically I would go over the whole car and check everything. then if its all good its just a case of checking oil levels and tyre pressures regularly between services.

Thanks man, Cam belt is a good shout. Everything else looks solid.
