pick your options £3k limit !
« on: 02 July 2013, 19:32 »
Ok pop quiz

I believe the gti stacks up at 28k to 29k list price not much higher.  So you have £3 k for options only, excluding dsg or 5 door, what do you tick to get the most for your pleasure and money.

For me it's -

Performance Pack - no brainer
Panoramic Roof - dont like the wind guard but love a big sunroof.
Can't decide between the basic nav, or drop that and get ACC and metallic.

It's a tough one if you don't go mental  on the options..
Daily drive - LCI BMW 330 D Estoril Blue & Saddle leather. M sport + Pack / Prof Nav / Head Up / Heated Seats
On the way - CS ed 40 tornado red, manual, 3 door
Weekend fun - low mileage portofino blue 1997 Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo
2017 Build Slot reserved for BMW M2

No options, not even metallic. They're all completely superfluous. It's the first time I've not optioned anything when ordering a car, it's that well specced.

If I had to spend £3k I'd order ACC, DiscoverNav, Winter pack, Reverse Camera, Keyless, Perhaps CSG metallic.

For me the priority was the driving performance/dynamics of the car so must have's were the PP and the DCC (or whatever its called )

After that it was luxury items rather than necessities. In order was

Sat Nav
keyless entry
winter pack

I would have still liked the Dynaudio and 19"s but wanted to keep the price to where I felt fairly comfortable

PP is the no brainer, I also went for ACC but now it's called DCC or whatever anybody else decides to call it (check out recent thread not sure what I am getting for £800 yet >) also went for leather to shut the mrs up about the checked standard seats

No options at all!!

Wow fair play to you I thought I was doing well with maybe PP and a couple of others.

That said on the older golf I would have ticked 18 inch wheels and xenon s both of which are standard, so no need to go mental.

Wonder if anyone has seen the car in the non metallic black!  Otherwise choices are daily limited without going metallic..

Also keen to hear thoughts on the std audio set up if it does the job well.  The ca I test drove on say had the basic nav but but tbh I wasn't overly taken at first impression given then price...

I actually don't get why everyone is saying the PP is a no-brainer. Personally I think you have to have no brains to pay £800 for bigger brakes, 10 bhp and a differential when the car already has 220bhp, decent brakes and XDS+. Why would you?

Yep Chris my theory was 2-3k options, get 3k off list price then with a manual, 3 dr in red (as you ordered) and the same as I test drove, comes in around 25k and that's quite compelling.

It's alarming that you go for a 5 door metallic with dsg and then you are already knocking on 30k..before performance pack etc

I guess that's where vw make their money.. It's tempting !

I am seeing a definite luxury v performance theme here

Those that spec the nice options and others just go mainly for the dynamics upgrades !
