Yeah I'm so glad I went for keyless - very classy and convenient.

On the other hand, the new key is a thing of beauty, so using it as it's meant to be (instead of hiding in a pocket) won't be a burden. Or so I keep telling myself

So-so's
Didn't feel much, much quicker then my current Scirocco (which surprised me)

I didn't think it was much quicker than my MK5 Golf GTI, I think the main reason is the extra torque generated by the engine is lost to taller gearing.  2nd and 3rd are much taller on the MK7, the MK5 can't do 80 in 3rd (recorded by GPS as the speedo is miles out) where the MK7 was heading to over 100, 2nd was around 75 so very similar to 3rd in the MK5.  Compare 3rd in the MK5 to 2nd in the MK7 and the MK7 is significantly quicker, I am surprised this hasn't been mentioned in reviews.

Cheers for the write up, always good to get other people's views.

One question about keyless entry, those of you raving about it can you enlighten me ?!  Not being sarcy, it just never featured on my wish list at all but would love to know the appeal.. How does it work, what are the benefits etc?

It's same price as the fixed price servicing ore or less and thought it was just a gimmick but I am open minded

I'd rather have keyless on my front door, it would make the blokes life easier in that Yorkie advert! We do have a keyless front door - bleeper or you can enter in a code (up to 12 digit programmable) - my success (or not) in putting in the code after a night on the lash is my measure of how drunk I am - 3 attempts and I resort to the fob.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Leave the keys in your pocket. Walk up to the car and it unlocks as you put your hand on the handle. Sit in and press the start button, the mirrors unfold and ignition fires up.
To lock the car, press the little dimple on the door handle.

I'm kinda liking the electronic parking brake too. You basically never need to touch it! It engages/disengages automatically, e.g.. Seat belt on, first gear selected, the brake disengages as you move off.

Glad the electronic brake is so easy. Some eejit in a big Peugeot rolled back 10 feet into my Scirocco yesterday when we'd been stopped at a light - his excuse was still getting used to the electronic brake. Didn't do any damage, it was a gentle roll back.

Being a bit dim but why does the car even have the electronic brake switch. When would you use it if everything is automatic  :embarrassed:

I second the electric brake view, when I saw it I said to the guy, god not an elec handbrake.. But actually it works very well an is intuitive, never need to touch it if you wear your seatbelt and it holds well on an incline and releases when you dab brake or throttle to move.

Thanks for the keyless entry views, does sound quite cool.

A bit cheesy but explains the keyless entry system well

I just loved the sensation of pushing the lovely chrome button to start, kinda feels like an event and quite up market (I'm easily pleased). I'm sure the excitement will wear of after a few months of use though.

Good question, cos as long as you are wearing the seatbelt it disengages automatically. Dealer also recommended I leave HOLD permanently on. With this on, the handbrake applies when you stop at a junction and press the brake pedal. The handbrake symbol in the dash goes green in this case, indicating that the car is on auto hold. Handy for hill starts. Then as soon as you go to move away it disengages.

Then when you park up at home, the parking brake engages when you release your seatbelt.
I read in the manual that you can use the parking brake as an emergency brake.... Handbrake turns?!!!! Maybe that's why the button is there.
