Golf mk2 running issues with weber.
« on: 02 July 2013, 13:10 »
Need some help really.

my mk2 1.3 being very temperamental, I put a Weber 32/34 dmtl jetted for a 1.3 it worked fine untill the other day. My symptons are with choke on (cable pulled out) car would work fine. with choke off (cable all the way in) the car struggles.
I had a look over the weekend cleaned up the carb tighten it all down etc and it was fine untill today where its started again, looking at what i think is the brake servo pipe, (little rubber pipe from manifold to brake servo pipe) it seems very perished could this be my problem?

I also used a plastic swirl pot that came with the weber, instead of using my brass looking one that was on the sh!tburg could this course any issues?

It acts like its starved from Fuel when the choke is off.

any ideas people?

Have you checked the CO and idle speed? Also the timing?

I'm not using a fuel reservoir (swirl) i'm using a t-piece in the supply and return. Did want to use a reservoir, but never bothered. The pierburg had one, but the weber didnt have a mounting point, and it didnt come with one! Can you put a picture of the reservoir please?

If you suspect fuel starvation, take the air cleaner off and have a look down the top. You can clearly see a jet of fuel going down when you rev it. Could be too much fuel and flooding it, gives similar symptons.

hi how long before it will start again after it cuts out? I would check your fuel tank and lines for dirt first. its a case of check and eliminate. carb icing also springs to mind but surely not at this time of year. it sure sounds like a fuel issue though which narrows it down a lot.

carb icing happens any time of year! I used to get it on nice warm days too, on the dual carriageways. Put a screw in the air box flap to ensure it only gets warm air, it'll never be a problem again. That was recommended to me by VW dealer and and vw specialist who has been wokring on vw's since 70's....
