I'm gonna wire the steering wheel up to the battery on mine so that if you don't flick a switch when you get in 10miles down the road you'll be getting a little shock!

J/K of course...

why? so they can have a slap on the wrist and pay you £20 victim charge. the police wouldn't catch them anyway they never do.

They'll always get away with it then if everyone had that attitude, when you know where your car is, call the police and tell them your going slit their throat when you catch them, they'll soon turn up!

I wouldn't want mine back if it's been stolen and yes I would want to run the thieving scum over and then again just to make sure haha car theft along with a host of other crimes are not really a priority any more for the police. sad but true.

Aye, a few years ago a mate of mine parked up at home after work and left his keys in the door, which also had his car key on as well.  He went upstairs, heard car doors slamming, an engine start, and a car wheelspin off...  After getting that sinking feeling, he shot downstairs only to see his car in the distance.  "Unfortunately" he got his car back, complete with petty internal damage and a trashed alloy, but he cut his losses, made good what he could, and traded for a new one because he couldn't stand driving it.

I always keep my car key separate from my house keys for that very reason.

I am not planning a tracker but will be buying GAP insurance. Confused.com gave me fully comprehensive insurance quotes for the GTI starting at around £190 (yes I really have that boring a job, location and driving history but its CHEAP !).

If some scumbag nicks the GTI then I don't want it back thrashed, trashed and crashed thanks very much. I would prefer it written off and a shiny new one some months later thanks to the car insurance plus GAP.

A friend of mine swears by it, having had the experience of a house burglary to nick the keys to his Merc and he got paid in full. When the Police rolled up 4 months later to say we have your car (although it's in a bit of state), he simply pointed at his new Merc and said "tell the insurance company you have the old one - it's their problem now" :smug:
Arrived: GTI, DSG, 5 Door, Carbon Steel Grey, Service Plan, Winter Pack, Side Airbag, DCC (or ACC - the Adaptive Chassis thing, ok?), Park Assist, Rear View Camera

With you Jim, until people say enough is enough rather than following the system nothing will enter change in UK LTD.

What's the standard factory alarm like in the GTI? Does it offer much protection over the immobiliser?

It's a thatcham category 1 set-up. It's as good as the insurance company would want you to have to reduce risk of theft on this car relative to it's worth. You'd want a better system on your Lambo!

Anyone who wants to pinch a car now will find it far easier to break into your house for the keys, generally.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....
