Probably worth it for the bigger brakes and e-diff, for 10PS only it would be poor value for money but the whole package seems a lot more reasonable than some options. The standard XDS does work very well though - amazed at the difference it made to my scirocco just for the few times I took a roundabout at ludicrous speed to try it out (once I had activated it in VCDS, and there were 3 levels of assistance to decide between - went for the medium option) - probably gives you more confidence to take a tight bend at speed.

Would agree that most of the upgrades wont be noticeable.

Will be good to hear from some PP owners who have test driven the std car but I would have thought in hard cornering the e diff would be noticeable, even if the 10 BHP isnt..

Personally I would rather VW would have charged £2k for the PP upgrade but it was 25 extra BHP, the e diff and some tasty red Brembo 4 piston front brakes and maybe some half alcantara seats with adjustable side bolsters..

Guess VW is saving the best upgrades for an edition 40 !
Daily drive - LCI BMW 330 D Estoril Blue & Saddle leather. M sport + Pack / Prof Nav / Head Up / Heated Seats
On the way - CS ed 40 tornado red, manual, 3 door
Weekend fun - low mileage portofino blue 1997 Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo
2017 Build Slot reserved for BMW M2

I'd look to the new Leon Cupra to see what it has as an indication as to what the 40 edition will have under the bonnet - at least 260PS as per current Scirocco R most likely. Maybe VW are saving the better seats for that GTI.

I didn't originally spec the PP for my car.

Then I watched all the reviews and managed to get a really good price to add it on my order.

Glad I did as the brakes look good, and I think the diff is noticeable, need to play more though to be certain!

Just work your way up to it rather than finding out the limitations on your first go and end up going through a roundabout rather than around it. Was missed by 1/2 a second a few years ago when someone came flying over a roundabout by Tynemouth baths after bombing it down the coast road. Launched over a big and well planted roundabout, landing in a hedge on the other side - a real "Dukes of Hazzard" moment. If i'd been 1/2 a second quicker he'd have hit us.

I think we had a "what changes would you make" thread a while back didn't we?

IIRC it was unanimously agreed that the PP should have been 250PS (or more).  I know VW would argue that their 230PS is better than the 250/260/270PS of rival cars because they can actually deliver that power to the road, plus the power band and torque aren't apparent from just quoting the max output... but still, I think it would divert much of the critisim of the GTI if it was a bit more powerful.

That said, I think most people who criticise this car do so not for any logical reason.  They are often wannabes who can't afford one, or they bought an ST or Megan a year ago and want to pretend its still better than a new GTI.  In that case its just easy to say "oh it is underpowered".  If you take that away they'll probably just pick on the price next, "oh you can get waay better stuff for less money."

Big wheels want big discs - the standard brakes looked lost on the GTI in Benfield with the 19"ers - adding PP could mean feeling the need to buy the bigger wheels too.

When comparing the GTI to rival cars, it is most definitely a case of 'you get what you pay for'.
