fuel help

i have a question.. on the drivers side there is some sort of fuel line.. when running smoke comes out the filter.. ive seen other mk2's and they dont have this, the hose goes down to the back of the engine block and its not got a jubilee clip to hold it on
 ive smelt the smoke and filter and it just smells like fuel.. so i dont get why it'd smoke out fuel? so it obviously doesnt go there

Crankcase breather, yes, pretty sure I've read the answer to you in another thread somewhere already
