Where to service?
« on: 28 June 2013, 15:56 »
My golf is due its 40k service including the dsg oil change, where am I best taking it to get done, the stealers so it has a full dealer service history or somewhere like awesome gti, I have a feeling where you are all going to say but worried about the resale value and warranty if not done by the main dealer, thanks.

Awesome will use genuine parts so warranty remains intact

For me personally I make sure the car has been serviced correctly and on schedule. Who does the servicing is irrelevant

Think I will take it to the dealers as its a lot closer to me, but don't expect any change from £500

For me it all depends how long tou intend to keep the car. If you are going to change it next year, then go to the dealers and maintain your full vwsh. If you are keeping it another 3-4 years, then I'd go with whoever offers the best value for money. A folder full of receipts showing  that the car has been looked after is worth more than a book of dealer stamps to a buyer of an older used car. Having said that, dealers labour rates reduce for cars over 5 years old, so it may be worth suffering a big bill now, knowing that the next one won't be as bad and you'll still have a book full of dealer stamps.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Booked in at the dealers for the service £497 for major service, brakes and dsg doing at Bradford jct600, VW Leeds wanted an extra £100! Thought they all would be the same price? Independent wanted £390 but thought I would stick with main dealer for when selling on.

Did you tell your dealer what the independent had quoted ?  My dealer always matches, and gives me 20% off regardless now to maintain my custom so I don't even bother comparing anymore.
I have always negotiated with dealers on service costs, if you don't ask, you don't get ....

A good specialist all the way, I used AKS tuning who the Mk5 GTi lads recommended and he is absolutely fantastic,  albeit he is located just outside Bedford so too far for many.

Many, many recommendations......
