Vr6 belt tensioner
« on: 26 June 2013, 23:28 »
After thinking my motor was on the way out... It looks like the belt tensioner bearing has given way! Did the screwdriver test and it sounds like it has worn out... Are they drone to wearing out? Or is there likely to be an underlining problem I'm missing here?

pull the belt off and start it up to see if noise has gone. if it has then your in the right area.wouldnt run it for long without the belt mind.

I don't think you can replace just the pulley, i've only seen them come with the tensioner aswell. One solution is to carefully remove the rubber seal on the bearing and regrease it, or find a new bearing, and replace that. If you do a search on google that should come up with a how-to.

They aren't cheap as a full unit, around £90 iirc (but i paid more for a belt aswell)

Mine decided to sieze up on the motorway and eating the belt  .... wasn't a fun, cheap day!
