  • Yes! Wait a minute... No!
Well hopefully soon there will be 3 or 4 brand new GTI/GTDs in the UK and the lucky b4stards chaps can let us all know exactly how long they take to ship.

However, since it sounds like yours might be here before the others I'd guess that it is between 2 and 4 weeks from leaving the factory until driving away from your dealer.  It should really only take 2 weeks but to allow for all possible delays I'd assume 4 and then be happy when it is less than this!

Great news Paul...  There sure are a lot of lucky B'stards around here!

I wonder how many more folk in the UK have already received their GTi's/GTD's (or are about to) but don't post on here???

Not sure Bill. On the tracker website it says shipment can take up to 4 weeks. When it arrives in the UK it could probably take 7-10 days to get to the dealership and then a further delay with the dealer allowing them to get it prepped. Worse case scenario could be as much as 6 weeks

- gulp -

We previously calculated it shouldn't be more than 4 weeks, 6 is mad!  I really hope that is just VW being extra extra conservative!

My dealer told me yesterday that from arriving at port (Hull), it takes normally 2-3 days to reach them (max 5 working days). It seems the majority of the time is waiting the loading onto a boat at Emden.

Hi Paul,

A couple of years ago when I was having my Scirocco built here's how it panned out:

Built in the factory 20 Oct
Sailed from port 24 Oct
Held up at Sheerness until 3 Nov
Car delivered on transporter 10 Nov

So all-in-all it only took 3 weeks even with the delay at the English port which isn't bad.

Fingers crossed yours goes as quickly :)

My dad has been told to expect to get his mitts on his on Friday or Saturday this week. From going into "in transit" status last Thursday. There have 2 ships leave Emden for the port of Tyne since that status update. The "City of Paris" arrived in port of Tyne this morning and the "City of Amsterdam" arrives tomorrow evening at 5pm.

If i'm home from work early enough, i'll be able to see it sail in to the Tyne from the bottom of my street (we overlook the River Tyne, about 3/4 of a mile in from the mouth).

Expedience in unloading and UK transport may rely uopn which port your car is arriving too. I would expect Sheerness to be a hell of a lot busier than port of Tyne. It's also a quick turnaround port as it will probably be loading up Nissans from the Sunderland plant for it's onward journey (if that journey is outside the UK).

Having the supplying dealership a mere 8 miles from the port can only help the cause also.

All those VW figures are worst case figures. I would expect a Scirocco or EOS from Portugal to take longer to get to the UK than a Wolfsburg Golf and I would expect a Mexican Beetle to take a hell of a lot longer. Even so, Wolfsburg to UK can easily take place within 4 days if you can jump on the next ship.
