hi guys,

i've just bought a 2002 TDI 130 with 110k on the clock.

it hass the dreded loud boost noise when accelerating which i put down to a hole in one of the pipes.
i also noticed clouds of smoke coming into the car through the boot area (which i can't currently open due to the solenoid not working ) this has discolored the roof lining and comes off when you rub it so it definitely soot

when we checked the top hose it looked a little perished but no hole but i replaced it anyway as a precaution.
the problem is still there.

looking at the inter cooler there is a large amount of oil / gunk all around the inter cooler and pipes.
So today we connected a smoke machine to the air intake and blew smoke through it to identify any further leaks and it came poring out of the intercooler, suggesting a hole and a new intercooler!

what would you recommend as a replacement?
in two minds as to just replace the intercooler alone with something like this:-

or go the whole hog and get the full darkside kit that replaces the pipe work as well??:-
http://www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk/products/upgraded-side-mount-intercooler-kit-for-1-9-tdi-pd130-asz-engine.html

reading all the posts on here it seems boost leaks are quite a common problem so tempted to replace everything so all the pipework is metal and shouldn't leak?

also bought an egr delete pipe from allard which i'm going to return as i don't want to cut the new pipe i've bought but i'm going to order the darkside one that fits to the standard pipe with no cutting.

if i go the dark side route and replace the lot will the solve all the problems or do you think i may still need a turbo etc??

been told the soot is due to the inter cooler creating the extra smoke and due to the exhaust not clearing the rear bumper in comes up through the ventilation holes in the boot?

had it on vagcom as well and didn't throw any codes out

sorry for such a long first post but wanted to give as much info as possible

any help / advice would be very much appriciated and look forward to attending some track / show days once it's all done!

thanks again - dave

I really wouldn't be driving the car if fumes where entering the cabin!

I haven't been since I noticed it was doing it again. Is it common for a hole in the intercooler to cause that's much build up of smoke though that it vents in from the exhaust?
