Is it illegal to pull away quickly?

Last night I pulled away quickly in first straight into a police roadblock. They pulled me over, checked my details, breathalysed me and told me that next time they'd fine me for I can't remember what offence.

Now, while I know it's illegal to speed, wheelspin, drift, etc, I wasn't aware that pulling away fast from a junction (it was a quiet 30mph area, but I didn't go over the speed limit) was an offence. For future reference (it's the second time I've been warned for pulling away fast, first was from a roundabout onto a dual carriageway, however in that case I was actually avoiding a car on the inside that decided to join my lane for the dual carriageway) is it genuinely a punishable offence or are they just blackmailing me? At no point did I wheelspin or swerve. I literally just accelerated quickly.

The only offence i can think of that could be applicable here would be 'driving without due care and attention' but it would be very unfair.

I thought that too, but they didn't say that would be what I'd be charged for. I think they said dangerous mobile object or something along those lines

I think they'd be pretty hard pushed to prove you were doing anything dangerous, sounds like they are just very excited about being policemen.

Same train of thought. They had no speed gun so couldn't prove the speed (but it was under 30mph), and in fact they couldn't even see me when I pulled off, they were round a long bend, they only heard me pull away quickly and by the time I saw them and they saw me I was doing a normal 30mph at normal revs.

Is your car pretty loud?, they don't seem to like that.

It's loud, but not overly loud. Certainly not anywhere near the limit for the road.

only thing I can think of is dangerous driving.

depends on cercumstances really. friend of mine got a section 60 what ever it is for accelerating quickly once, that was cause he was in a built up area, with about 15 people around so one of them could have quiet easily stepped infront of the car and he wouldn't have been able to stop, which he agreed on and took the ticket happily...
