weight reduction - air con?
« on: 18 June 2013, 18:03 »
hi all,

I've been doing some weight reduction this week, removed rear seats and spare wheel, and I've noticed a little difference which got me thinking of other parts I could take out. don't want to do door cards etc but my air con is rubbish, needs a regas and I never use it. so my question is..

how much weight can I save by removing the air con, anyone done it?
and how easy is it to do!?

thanks!

You can save a few kilo but it's not a huge gain from what I understand.

The compressor is the heaviest component,  the condenser,  dryer and the pipework weigh sod all due to been hollow aluminium.

Love my air con.
I prefer to let my Mk3 self lighten, every piece of dissolved sill and floor improves my power to weight ratio
