Genuine anniversary's have the vehicle as a 'Golf Anniversary' on the log book rather than just 'Golf'. I suspect the 750 figure is true. People who own an anniversary generally cherish them as something special, hence there are still quite a few about..

You need to remember the dvla are who's responsible for what it says on the log book and I know of several which are just listed as Golf GTI on the log book (which are true anniversary models)

plus I think the anniversary are down to about 400 in total (It's impossible to guess though!). Mine may not live for ever?  :lipsrsealed:

A lot more I think. I would not say they are unique at all,

I doubt that.
You should have tried sourcing one new in August/September 1996...it was almost impossible.
16vs especially.

I'm fairly sure the 750 UK models is correct...they were a bargain when you consider the extra kit you got for a modest £800ish premium over the standard car.

How much were they new back in 96/97? I've got the vehicle information sheet from Wayside MK for mine when it was sold with 12k miles but there is no price.

£17000ish rings a bell for mine (16v, 5dr, metallic, air-con)...but I'd need to dig out the original sales receipt to be sure.
