Just a quick one. How stiff is your rear suspension on a scale of 1 to 10.

VW saw that i needed new spring when going in for service. " I said new spring, its only 3 and half years old", she said "yeah, they are nearly gone"

I said "gone where?"   .....she said they could become dangerous. With her been just the service desk lady , she had no idea what she was banging on about., and she said the service engineer was busy...

Anyways, VW fitted a new set of rear springs - Not Shocks  :undecided:  No idea why....but check the parts number they fitted and it was defo the rear springs.

I do remember them been stiffer than my MK5 before it went in, but for standard springs they seem vey stiff. Feel a fair bit in the cabin, but they do hold corners very well.

If you are still on standard springs and shocks, what number out of ten would you give them for stiffness and how much do you fee in the cabin?

2...WTF...i would say mine are at least a 6-7. So now i start to wonder...what the problem?

I lot of road around here are pretty sh!te as they have been dug up loads for internet...but still, my rear suspension feels too firm.

Could be the change fro 17s on the MK5 to 18s again on my MK6, ....what size rims you got?

This is so odd. I would have asked to see the old ones to see why but then ive worked on cars for years.
To answer the question I think mines hard. Vw do have a habbit of using hard springs and soft shocks.
My leons like that which I just replaced two front springs on which had snapped.

Would say mines about 6/7 - hard.  Feel quite a lot in cabin, but on 19" rims.  Can lessen it a bit with the ACC but like it firm.

I dont mine it been firm, alot of my cars have been firm. But for standard springs, just seems pretty stiff.

Well they replaced them for free, so there must have been something wrong or they wouldnt bother.

The spring should last the life of the car it's not something that wears out unless it corrodes and snaps. I would have asked to see the old ones

If the springs were that bad what's the rest of the suspension like?

Strange this.
A coil spring is either broken or its fine.
Have you had a look under your car to confirm the rear springs have been changed?
Also I'd check what colour the paint markings are and maybe a fellow Gti owner can confirm the correct springs have been fitted.
