Strange electric window problem
« on: 10 June 2013, 19:34 »
OK wonder if you can help me out on this one:

When I got in the car this evening the passenger window went down by itself when I turned the key. It was then unresponsive on both switches.

I can shut it again when doing the key closure trick on the central locking- but when starting ignition again it drops, so I hope it doesn't rain while I'm driving

Window regulator was replaced on this side not so long back, but as I work away I can't take it back to same garage :(

Hmm.. Check wires running through door and make sure they haven't split and therefore "short circuited" (I lack a better expression).

Same way of troubleshooting would be to listen to the relay for a clicking sound when you press the buttons.

Thanks for the help- I looked and there is a small nick in the large brown wire.

I can get window to stay closed if I open on the central locking and then immediately close the window on the drivers switch when ignition on.

The window really struggles on the way up though, seems it has come off the runners.

Will do for now until I get to the garage back home.

Better wrap some electrical tape around the exposed wire (or solder and heatshrink if you're bored lol).

Not sure I completely understand your procedure for closing it again.. But if it's something to do with the runners you'll have to get the door sides off anyway I suppose. Should be easier to diagnose from then on :)

best of luck

Whats this central locking trick to open windows then? My drivers side window has stopped working as well just in time for summer so was ging to strip the door down as suggested on here?

Is it like my passat where you turn the key and keep it turned and it opens the windows?
