Polishers - recommendations?
« on: 10 June 2013, 14:09 »
I am thinking about getting a polisher in a couple months.

As a complete novice, what is the best type to go for  - Dual Action, Rotary or Orbital.  I've read that a DA is probably better for a beginner?   Any recommendations?

Also any advice on pads will be appreciated - Paintwork is in good condtion so no major correction required

Thanks

Yes DA's are better for beginners with no machine experience,
There's some good kits here to suite different budgets http://www.i4detailing.co.uk/acatalog/Kestrel_DAS-6_Dual_Action_Machine_Polisher_1.html

Or these

Here's a link to the DA i have. to be honest a rotary isn't as scary as you would think. you just have to get your technique otherwise it may take you longer.

Oh also use the code DAS6GROUPBUY and that will get you £15 discount.

Oh on the pads front i would say 3M, Chemical guys or Dodo Juice Fin Pads.

What polish are you looking to use?

DA for rookie is the sensible option.

I'd get some chemical guys or the 3M pads, personally. I have the megs pads and am not that keen on them. The 3M pads and polish work well together and are easy to use for stepping up the cut etc.

I have been looking at DA aswell.

I was wondering about a dodo juice buff daddy? What do people think of that?

I found it here

I am also getting confused with kits for pads and products. I was thinking of dodo juice lime prime. What products do people use?

I went for Poorboys SSR1 for removing swirls was going to go for Lime Prime but read somewhere it can leave a greasy mess. Then its going to be topped with Poorboys EX-P Sealant and topped with Poorbots Natty Paste Red Wax. Hopefully all machine applied.

Thinking about getting a DA myself after looking at some of the pics people have been putting up on here

Not a clue where to start so might just go middle of the road and see what the results are like

After doing a quick bit of googling ebay etc, there are a lot of cheapo machine polishers out there (Halfords own, RAC etc) and I cant see what the difference is going to be really. But after learnign from past experiences I am not going to go cheapo or top of the range straight away, I will go middle of the road and get a DA polisher for about £100, use it a couple of times then put it in the garage with my radio controlled boat, radio controlled nitro car, golf clubs, mountain bike, swing ball etc etc

I think a DAS 6 one might suit you well. The Dodo Juice one is essentially a DAS 6. I just liked the bag and like their products.
