Help needed regarding dealership
« on: 10 June 2013, 13:54 »
I bought my new (used) Golf GTI mk6 (60 plate) on 21st April with arranged pickup on the 25th. Car needed a few jobs done which i agreed with the dealer to do. These were that 3 wheels needed refurbished and that a headlight needed changing.

I picked the car up on Thursday 25th May and on walking to check the car i asked if jobs had been taken care of. The salesman said that the wheels had been refurbished and that a new headlight had to be ordered. I asked why it hadn't been done and he said that the body shop thought they would be able to fix it without replacing. The headlight had dents round the top of the light as if someone had used a screw driver to prize open the bonnet, there was no damage to the headlight. Fair enough.

The salesman said they had only one key so would order me up a new key, he told me the order gets sent to Gemany so may take a while for a new key (now i know this was bull).

We signed the paperwork on the understanding that the light would be changed and a new key to be ordered.

I got a call from the salesman on 2nd May saying that my headlight had been delivered and could i bring my car in on Saturday morning (4th) to have it fitted and I agreed. I took my car down and the saleman wasn't in and the service dept knew nothing about it. After a bit groaning about the service they took my keys and fitted the light, cleaning the car in the process.

I rang on 6th May regarding my key and the salesman said that it had been ordered, he also appologised about my appointment with the service department saying he had mentioned it to the service manager who wasn't in on the Saturday.

On the 13th May, I went and handed the V5 over for my new car so they could organise the reg transfer as part of the deal. I was told it would take 2 weeks to come back. I chased up the key again and he said that he had checked and the order has been processed and he would look into it and get back to me. Salesman never did.

14th May, i got a phone call from the admin dept saying that they hadn't raised a supplementary invoice for the reg transfer so i had to pay that. They raised it and i paid the £105 owing.

20th May i received a call from the salesman saying that my reg transfer had been delivered and could i go and pick the tax and plates up. I went on the 21st and had the plates changed and rang my insurance company up. I noticed the receipt and the plate transfer had been done on 13th May when i handed it in at the local DVLA office. What had happened from 13th May to 20th May and was my car registered in the private plate and i was driving around on the previous plate? What were the insurance implications etc?  I asked about the key and he said the company they use to program the key would ring me to organise a time to program it.

10th June - I rang the dealership to speak to the salesman and he has now left the company. Another salesman said he would look into it and get back to me. He got back to me about an hour later and said the key had never been ordered. He had asked the service department to put the order in and that i should ring them the next day to see what is happening.

I'm not sure if i can name the dealership or not, it is not a VW dealership but they have VW dealership within their group.

Do you think i should take this any further? Comments would be welcome. Thanks

It does seem like poor after sales service. if I was in your shoes I'd be annoyed but not too overly concerned. the light has been replaced and once the second key arrives you'll be laughing. if you're pissed about how you've been treated then speak to the manager.

Thanks for the response, I have just had a call from the AA and they are coming out tomorrow to supply and code a new key. I can't believe how easy it was to organize for them. Whether it not they are having to pay a lot for them to do it, that's not my problem.

Things like this makes you think when you come to replacing your car again.

Hopefully all sorted.

Sounds like you got a bag egg. Apart from that 1 guy being a knob everyone else at this dealership seems to have treated you well. Good riddance to that guy

Yeah it's a shame that the experience with the salesman has soured the reputation of the dealership for me.

Only 1 key and the dealer didn't rush out to get a replacement.

I have heard of no spare key scams/thefts...not sure if it's relevant in this situation.

Well the dealership in question has a couple of ford and seat dealerships in the Newcastle area.

Yeah I'm sure they will wipe all keys and then recode mine and the new one. Hopefully anyway :)
