well my car decided to start being rebellious, guess that is to be expected from a teenager. I know have to wait a few seconds with the key in first position before cranking or I get a very unpleasant sound. Once it starts it drives normal. Have changed relay 167 but no real difference....I don't mind waiting a few seconds, but will something eventually fail...As every year problems always start 6 weeks before MOT...:(

fuel pressure reg is leaking... hence it's loosing fuel pressure - and you have to wait before cranking until the pump built up the pressure again.

Haynes manual is a bit helpful, but not that much. found a picture of it. just eondering if one from a 2.0 will be compatible or sam I out of luck. the pic in haynes is kind of ambiguous and doesn't really explain hoe to inspect it to see if it is ok...

1.8 AAM automatic. The noise is not pleadasnt and sounds metallic. I think I will end up parking it up at some point. I thinmk the problerm is as mentioned above as it does not at all accellerate up hills even at full throttle and is just unresponsive. Now I need to "prime" it before starting. Will see what the MOT man says. Will hunt for fuel pressur regin scrapyard... maybe I will be lucky...:)

no the pressure regulator is not the same as on 2.0 - they have a higher operating pressure.

the pressure reg on the aam is integrated in the injection unit. see item 1 below

yeah haynes gives a pitiful description of how to change this. This is what is most likely giving me poor fuel economy, high HC in the emissions and poor acceleration according to another web site. Funny thing is that it works sometimes ok, sometimes not. I will hunt for this at the scrappies-  hope than manual transmissions have the same part as automatic. Mostly people take the whole part throttle body injectors along with the injection flange mount. I hope I will get lucky and find a 1.8 in the yard.:). If not mybe someone on here will have one up for grabs.

no luck in the scrapyard-lots of 2.0's and a couple of VR6's.  So is anyone breaking their car and maybe has this part available?

take the injector top part apart... possibly just the membrane that's broken.... that you should be able to get aftermarket for some loose change :)
