« on: 08 June 2013, 22:00 »
I am just starting to look for a MK6 GTI - What do people see as the key options to look for on a car? - Is there a link to the 2009 / 2010 GTI Brochure anywhere out there?  Thanks for any help

I suppose it depends on whether you want/are willing to do after market mods.  But imo:

Dynaudio
Xenons
ACC, if possible
Heated leather
RCD 510 DAB or RNS 510 (if you want built in sat nav) but can be retrofitted
Bluetooth phone (can be retrofitted)
Black Beauty: MK7 R 5dr DSG, DBP, 19" Pretoria, DCC, Vienna leather, Keyless, Dynaudio, DNS Pro, Rear camera, HBA
2012 MK6 GTI DSG
2008 MK5 GTI DSG
2005 MK5 GTI Manual

I have quite a basic spec car (xenons + sunroof + satnav) and have had it 4 years.
What would I have liked extra over the past 4 years.

Parking sensors---- as the front due to its shape is hard to judge and the rear with the high window does not help.
Bluetooth---- for obvious reasons
18" Monza shadow alloys --- looks

and maybe
ACC---- for longer journeys were comfort setting would have been handy.

But really dont miss anything else.
Everyones different though.

Mk6 GTI  &  Mk1 GTI
34 years of GTI ownership.

Xenon's is the only thing I regret not buying a car with already fitted as they are very expensive to retrofit.

Bluetooth/ NAV(RNS510) / Cruise Control / Upgraded ICE are all fairly easy and nt extortionate money wise.

Good luck with your search.

The 3 things I'd look for;

Xenons - problem is, now I've had them, I wouldn't want any future car without them.
Parking sensors; agree with Snoopy - especially the rear when it's dark, as rear visibility at night when reversing is poor
Dynaudio

Most other options I might like are fairly easy to have retro-fitted.
2020 Polo GTI Plus; Pure White, DSG (because they all are)
Gone but not forgotten;
2016 Polo GTI; Blue Silk
2011 mk6 Golf GTD; Carbon Grey
2007 mk5 Golf GT (2.0 170bhp TDI version); Deep Black Pearl
2002  mk4 Golf GTI (the 150 bhp diesel version); Deep Black Pearl

I've had 2 mk6 GTIs, my first was a very early 2009 car deliberately bought with no options as I wanted to retro-fit everything I wanted as a project. Partly to keep costs down and partly for the hell of it.
The second car was bought because the first car didn't have xenons and they were going to be a nightmare to fit.

So, from my experience I'd say xenons both make the car in the looks department and are very very useful. LED tails likewise.

I now have Dynaudio, I could happily live without it and am not speccing it on my next car (mk7 on order). Any improvement is drowned out by the tyre noise at sensible volumes.

I test drove a car with ACC and have quite happily lived without it for the last nearly four years. If a car came with it then fine but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

Nav is very good but rare on a new car due to cost. However it is easily and fairly cheaply retro-fitted.

18's make the car. And most come with that option.

Parking sensors are one thing my car doesn't have and I half wish it did but it's only about £200 to get a set fitted from VW.

Rear camera a nice gimmick and again can be retro-fitted for about £300

Late cars have DAB which is great for people like me who mostly listen to the radio. I retro-fitted a DAB unit into my car and am glad I did.

Sunroof? Well, a nice but a rare option.

Bluetooth standard on very late cars, my car has it and although it's not something I ever thought I'd use I actually find it useful at times. Easily retro-fitted.

Leather; my first car had cloth and my second has leather. I like both. I think I prefer the cloth.
