Golf 'Match' - Service Intervals

My Golf will be 1year old on 26th July 2013 & in that time (to date) I've done 8,300 miles in it from brand new (10 miles on it when I picked it up.)

I've taken out a 3yr service package offer which was on at the time when I bought the car, however I'm a bit unsure how the service thing works.

Will the first ever service it has be an oil & filter change even thought it says something about 1yr old or 10,000 miles - whichever comes soonest??   

On my MFD Service info screen today it says this which has slightly confused me:

There are two types of service schedules - Time and Distance (at 10k miles or 1 year) and Flexible, Longlife service regime which would be done at 18,000 miles or 2 years, whichever comes first.

Sounds like you're on the Flexible regime.  Either that or the computer is set incorrectly.

You can choose from two types of service regimes, depending on your driving methods.

Fixed Service (Time and Distance)
We recommend this service if you are likely to drive less than 10,000* miles in a year, and if you tend to drive in the following way:

Mainly city centre driving, short journeys with frequent cold starts
High engine loading activities, e.g. frequent hill climbs, driving with your vehicle fully loaded and towing
Uneconomical driving using high rpms with heavy acceleration and heavy braking.

Flexible Service Regime (LongLife Service)
We recommend this service if you are likely to drive more than 25 miles a day, and if you tend to drive in the following way:

Regular long distance driving
Driving at a constant speed with minimum vehicle and engine loading, and minimal towing
Economical driving
This Flexible regime has been made possible due to the development of new Volkswagen engines with the latest technically advanced longlife oil. These engines use built-in sensors that continually monitor the oil quality, making it possible to enjoy reliable and confident motoring for up to a maximum of 18,000* miles or 24 months (whichever occurs first).

The 3 year service plan works on the time and distance service schedule, so it looks as if your MFD service reminder has been set for long life servicing if it's telling you your car doesn't need its first service until just over a year's time or 9k miles.

Under the 3 year service plan, you get 3 services;

The first service is an oil service at 1 year / 10k miles, whichever comes first
2nd service at 2yrs / 20k miles, whichever comes first. This one's an interval service
The 3rd service is an inspection service at 3 yrs / 30k miles, whichever comes first.

You should have received a service plan agreement from VW shortly after you took delivery of your car, which outlines the terms and conditions of the plan, including details of what's included and what's excluded. For details of what each service entails, you need to refer to your service schedule booklet (it's pages 8 and 9 in mine) in the folder with the manuals for your car.

Mine's going in for its 2nd service under the plan in a couple of weeks time.

If I were you, I'd certainly not wait another 12 months / 9k miles before the first service. For one thing, you'd not be complying with the service plan T's & C's, so you'd be invalidating your warranty.

I don't intend to wait another 12 months/9,000 miles before the first service - I'll be taking it in at 10,000 miles or when it reaches 1yr old - surely that is complying with the service plan that way?

When you do take it in, they will need to reset the MFD to show correct time/distance till next service on the T & D service regime

If it isn't 12 months old yet but your MFD is showing 9000 miles or 373 days till the next service then you ecu is set for the longlife 20k or 24 months which ever comes first.

No VW computers aren't accurate because after you have it serviced and you have it changed to time and distance 10k or 12 months if the check the MFD it will says something like 9200 miles or 381 days to next service. It doesn't know there are 365 days in a year or 10,000 miles.

Yes, but as Booth11 says, get them to re-set your MFD to show time and distance servicing.
