I like that but i would still take the Astra VXR, the car looks fab and really agressive!

i have a feeling it'll be more like 25/26k.. the interior looks good but i hope the outside looks a lot better than that poorly photoshopped mk5 gti image autocarmag have used :undecided:

still.. mk4 R32 prices are dropping every day, and i'd have that over any mk5

The difference being the astra vxr will put you into the nearest tree where as the golf being 4wd prob will be a lot more life friendly..

happy with the gti, all the reports i have read the gti comes out on top of the vxr.the vxr may have more power but the overall handling of the gti is much better.

at the end of the day if you want more power you can have it chipped, so why pay more for a r32?

2 points:

1. The VXR simply does not have the chassis to cope with that power - even JC on top gear agrees. Thats why the GTI is better - its perfect balance of power to relevant body design of what it can ideally cope with and it does what a hot hatch is meant to do in confidence. As Count-von-Sauron nicely put it, the GTI will keep you away from the nearest tree unlike the Astra. I feel Vauxhall were trying to prove a point here by maxing the power, just so it could be advertised with more power than the GTI, or the megane 225. As for the astra, in my opinion you would be better off buying a Leon Cupra R if you want more power than the Golf GTI

2. 3.2L FSI turbo for the new R32 - to be honest I was hoping for more than a 10BHP inc over the old R32 - not complaining but the thought of being nearer to 280 perhaps. (Considering the fact that a 2.0FSI will remap to 240BHP with no major problems).

Go sit in a mk4 GTI 1.8T, then a mk4 R32. Remapped turbos can match them for pace yes, but the '32 is in a different league. People will buy it, not because its faster than a GTI, not because it handles better (4motion remember) but because it's the prestige model. Some people will buy it because they are snobs, while others just want the best

Look at the 4Car website, they seem to have genuine photos, looks sweet anyhow.
