apparently the engine is incredibly chippable. It comes standard 150 bhp but with a simple chip it will gain 30bhp. when looking at mk3's lots were advertised with 180bhp and when I enquired it was because it they had been chipped.

Standard ~148 to 152 bhp

Standard engine & exhaust system but chipped ~160 bhp

Standard engine with a stainless exhaust system ~166bhp

^ Khare's Mk3 16v ranges from 158 to 165 bhp depending on the day.

You will not see 180bhp from just a chip (unless on a very optimistic dyno)

*SLAP* No.  ABF is 2.0 16V motor from Golf3

It comes standard 150 bhp but with a simple chip it will gain 30bhp. when looking at mk3's lots were advertised with 180bhp and when I enquired it was because it they had been chipped.

Barryboy Horse Power maybe.

The engine has potential, but you're not going to let that out with a chip.  You *might* see a genuine 160bhp frigging about with the mapping, but you need to get the gases away from it to start getting some proper benefit.  Danny's ABF dynoed at around 170bhp with a four-branch manifold on the back of it.

180bhp would need a cam, 4-branch manifold and a custom map.

200bhp will need head work, ITBs and ARP bolts on the bottom end to keep it together, as well as a different crank sensor as the one in the engine can disintegrate once you start lifting the rev-limiter.

Anyone quoting 180bhp from a chip is speaking sh*t.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

The same people that believe the internet myth that the ABF was detuned so as to not harm sales of the VR6 no doubt.
