Tyre advice please...
« on: 01 June 2013, 10:42 »
Firstly, I promise I have used the search function, but never really got to the bottom of what I am looking for...

Currently have Pirelli P6000s on the front and Bridgestone Turanzas on the rear. The Bridgestones neeed replacing now and the Pirellis probably will in around 3 months (I am doing around 500 miles per week of mostly motorway driving at the moment).

So the question is what is the best tyre choice all round? Should I replace Bridgestones with Pirellis and work towards a full set of P6000s or head off down the Bridgestone route? Or is there another make/tyre which I should be heading towards?

Not looking for budet tyres, although sensible cost is always good - thinking £70 - £90 per corner.

Thanks for reading,

steve

205/55/16s

Want something sporty when I need it, but not prone to wearing too quickly as I am doing quite a few motorway miles...

If that website doesn't help you than nothing can.

Also, that tyre profile maybe a bit high for a real sporty drive, may have to be quite highly inflated... :undecided:

I found the newer pirelli p7 to be a good purchase. I had the bridgestones previously (and have falkens on the back) but have found them both to be a bit lacking. Where as the p7 seemed to give the best grip and feel of the 3. Personally I would go for a set of uniroyal rainsports 2. I've had them on other cars and they are an excellent tyre.

The p7 were great in the snow too which is something to think about for the tail end of the year.

Sorry to bump this, but have been offered a set of michelin primacy 3s from Costco at a very good price - anybody have any experience of these tyres on a GTi?

Thanks,
