Spoke to a friend of my dads who used to race cars, he advised not to take the car over 180bhp and 270 torque as this will damage the enine as it will have "settled in" to working at a certain pressure. During a remap this pressure will increase which could cause damage to componetns within the engine. Anyone know if this is the case?

I really don't want to cause any damage to the car or cause the clutch to fail. Will remaping cause damage. was thinking of a revo remap that takes the car to 195bhp and 310Nm torque roughly but based on what I was told this would be a risky move. Any opinions/ advice?

Sorry to be harsh but that is a load of rubbish, if the car is sound and has been looked after plus the remap is of a good standard it will not hurt it or cause damage.

My car was on 120k when it was remapped with no issues, clutch wise if driven with care then it will be fine.

This engines can run a lot more then that on standard internals.
250, 260bhp even upto 300 or so, so 180 is a daft figure.

A good remap wont damage the car but it may show weakness.
Say your clutch is on its way out and is just holding on a remap will make it start I slip but if it does it means that you woul have had to change it soon anyway.

Things probably will pop up that need fixing but the same things would have popped up a month or so later.

Just custom stage 1 done at a reputable place tht specialises in vw and 1.8t's like r-tech, badger5 etc  and avoid any generic crap like revo or crappy backstreet garages that claims they can increase the horsepower of any car by 50bhp.

R-tech custom remap - k04-001- 250bhp/311ftlb

"Project track car" has begun

If wayne was being harsh then I'm just going to be a total dick

The mate of your dad's clearly knows nothing about the engines and is talking out of his arse. Hundreds of people run well over 200bhp completely safely.

It's when you get close to 300lb/ft that you risk bending rods but you'll need more than a stage 1 map to get anywhere near that.

Get booked into r-tech,  they know their stuff and by far the best out there!
You have a aum engine code (if say) which comes with a k03s being 2001+.   You will have no problem hitting 220-225bhp with the right supporting mods with plenty of room to push up to 260bhp if you want to go all out and push it.
Rods can go any time depending on peak cylinder charge pressures.....too much pressure and rods bend.   BAM rods can be bent using a stock map, so the 300lbft guideline isnt accurate....but its a good one.

Scott.....what mods have you got for 254bhp?  whats your engine code?
