Autobulbs interior LED kit
« on: 28 May 2013, 12:26 »
Well I'm sure most of you saw the competition Autobulbs were running earlier this month for their interior light kit.

The kit arrived this morning and I wasted no time in getting it fitted.

The kit is the OSRAM 501 LED Cool White, which consists of 5 x 501 LED bulbs in a neat little box...

with the bulbs looking like this...

found on the Autobulbs site here: http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/OSRAM-501-LED-Cool-White-Interior-Bulbs.html

so I'll just let the pictures do the talking from here...

needless to say, I'm massively impressed with these! I have to be honest, I wouldn't have even dreamed about paying £40 for 5 x 501 LED bulbs before, but seeing these I won't be buying cheap again. There is absolutely no discolouration between the bulbs, which is usually the case with cheaper LEDs.

These are highly recommended by me and I have just spoken to Adam at Autobulbs to buy more of the same quality for the rest of the interior lights.

10 out of 10!

I had a quick look at this: http://youtu.be/f-Ly6mbyUus

but they are very easy to install. all you need is a flat head screwdriver and the panels unclip very easily.

They do look great.  Since you went to the trouble of entering the comp, you'd think they might throw in the other lights as part of the prize

Which other lamps need replacing that the kit you won doesn't cover? Vanity lights on sun visors and footwell lights?

They do look very good quality, but seriously £40!

I got 10 off eBay for £3 and to date no issues

Exactly what I thought.  £40 and you still need to buy more !

the price does seem a little crazy, but compared to the price of other mods it's just a drop in the ocean. I paid £30 for my reg plate LEDs as I wanted the best, which is the same league as the Osram kit. After having these installed I will definitely choose them again going forward. You get what you pay for at the end of the day, and this kit is the best you're gonna get.

It seems like you've fallen for their strategic marketing hook line and sinker. As Raffe says, £3 will buy you a product that does exactly the same thing. You say "You get what you pay for" I think that the extra you are paying for is some fancy packaging and some injected molded plastic to make the lamps "look" more expensive, when in fact that costs pence to produce.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.
